Lack of Explanations

This book does a very poor job of explaining a complex subject. My general experience with physicists is that they expect students to just get it, and the author seems to have the same mindset. The book encourages the student to apply fundamental principles rather than just using a formula, but no effort is given to teaching the student how to arrive at this mindset. Hence, me and my classmates continue to view physics as an exercise in memorizing formulas rather than learning how to solve problems.
The online homework that accompanies this book also leaves much to be desired. Throughout the book, emphasis is placed on "estimating" and calculating a general result, while the online homework will require additional precision beyond what is allowed by significant figure rules.
If you are a professor considering using this book, please do your students a favor and use someone else.
