A superb text

As a teacher of mathematics I have used a number of different algebra texts and evaluated many others. After an extensive search for a text that would meet the needs of students preparing for college-level mathematics, I decided that this book had no equal. The exposition is both clear and rigorous, and the problems are of real mathematical depth without being too difficult for most students. One of the best aspects of the book is the extensive drill on algebra skills included in every section.

The Best Algebra II/Trigonometry Text Available

I used this book (when it was written by Mary P. Dolciani) in 1973-74 as a junior in high school and loved it. The recent revisions continue the excellence of Dolciani and the series. The theory is sound and the examples are easy to follow. Especially important is the numerous exercises graded in difficulty that help the student master the material. This book actually makes students THINK and does not spoon feed the material.
I can't say enough great things about this text. My school district uses this text for the honors tract (9th/10th grades) but uses another text for the "regular" 11th grade Algebra II sequence. I feel this is unfortunate because all students can benefit from the rigors of this book.

Faithful to the highest standards of traditional math, this rigorous and thorough tour of algebra and trigonometry is presented with meticulous clarity. It is an invaluable tool in its own right, but is especially worthwhile in preparation for advancing to upper level math concepts. The sections dedicated to word problems have particularly relevant real world applications, addressing the "When are we ever gonna have to use this?" issue with convincing examples. The organization is intelligent, uncluttered, and methodical. As a resource, this volume represents an investment of substantial educational merit, and uncompromising quality.

INTRODUCTION

Few things in this world are more exciting and more memorable than welcoming a new dog into your life. The journey goes far beyond simply having a companion by your side. Dogs have much to teach us: They always live in the moment. They’re never spiteful, and they don’t hold grudges. Also, there’s just something about dogs’ loyalty and unconditional love that makes people crazy about them. 
   
That’s not to say that bringing a dog home doesn’t come with its challenges. You have a lot to teach your new pet so that you can live in harmony and have a long, rewarding relationship. Whether you are reading this book because you’ve just gotten a dog or because you want some fresh perspective on raising the one you already have, I promise you that you have come to the right place. 

Like many people, I have always adored dogs. I grew up with an adorable terrier mix named Raisin, and I learned that dogs are independent-minded beings who have a great capacity for love. 
 
As I got older, my love for dogs continued to grow. I was absolutely fascinated by them—I’d watch dog Frisbee competitions on TV and was blown away by their flips, leaps, and other tricks. I just couldn’t wrap my head around the idea that a dog and a person could communicate so well, and I really wanted to experience that. So in my twenties, I decided it was time to raise a dog on my own. Little did I know that my life was about to take a turn from average to amazing: that’s when I got Venus. 
 
Venus is a Border Collie, and from the minute I met her I was so impressed by her intelligence. I spent a lot of time training her and always made it fun. In turn, we became completely in tune with each other, and she seemed as obsessed with learning as I was with teaching. I found that there was virtually no limit to what she could do. In just a few days, she learned how to fake a limp by walking on three legs—total Hollywood style, really convincing. Then there’s my favorite trick I call “Superstar”—I’d lie on my back and Venus would balance on her hind legs on top of the soles of my feet. Next, I’d throw Frisbees to her, one after the other. She’d catch every one while maintaining her balance! However, while I know part of her success was due to the amount of time I dedicated to her, it was our bond that played an even bigger role. Venus showed me that when you prioritize your relationship with your dog, the teaching process becomes easy. 
   
When Venus was about ten months old, I decided to drop my real estate career and figure out how I could somehow make a living while teaching her. Of course this job didn’t exist, but I found something surprisingly close. By this point, Venus had won her first three Frisbee competitions, and I found out that a PetSmart near my house was looking for a dog trainer. I scheduled an interview and brought Venus and our three trophies as my resumé. Venus and I performed for the interviewer. I was hired on the spot. 
   
I enjoyed my time at PetSmart over the next few years—it gave me tons of experience. After that, I continued training and, in total, taught thousands of dogs and their families. I worked with all different breeds and mixed breeds and handled virtually every behavioral issue you can imagine. I also added two more Border Collies to my family—Alpha Centauri and Supernova—and eventually took a job with Stunt Dog Productions, performing with my three dogs nationwide. In 2006, I also launched my YouTube channel, now known as Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution, posting videos on how to teach dogs everything from “roll over” to how to stop them from jumping up. I quickly acquired more subscribers than any other dog trainer on YouTube, a status that holds today. Eventually, my success led to my starring on my first TV show, Animal Planet’s SuperFetch, on which I taught average people how to teach their dogs awesome tricks. Later, I produced and starred on a BBC show called Who Let the Dogs Out?, a talent search for Britain’s best young dog trainers. 
   
Throughout all of this experience, I showed people that by learning to connect with their dogs and have fun with them, they could teach them extraordinary things. However, I was also shocked by the scary amount of misinformation in the dog training world. I heard a lot of talk about how we have to be our dogs’ pack leaders and that we need to dominate them; otherwise they will attempt to be the “alpha.” I saw very well-known traditional trainers tell people that dogs are essentially wolves at heart and should be treated as such, even though the actual science tells a very different story. Dogs did descend from ancient wolves, but this next point is critical: for thousands of years, humans have specifically bred dogs for different skills, such as herding, retrieving, or simply for companionship. In other words, dogs have been bred to interact with people. Catering to the wolf ancestry rather than acknowledging this selective breeding ignores why the modern dog even exists, and any training method that teaches based on this old-fashioned line of thinking is fundamentally flawed. 

Unfortunately, traditional dog training, which relies heavily on dominance theory, often means punishment-based training. People are told to use force and intimidation to teach their dogs to be submissive. This has always bothered me, not just because it can be very unpleasant for the dog, but also because it focuses on making dogs act a certain way rather than encouraging them to want to do so. For instance, tools designed to cause discomfort to dogs in the name of teaching are commonplace today. I know that many of you reading this may have purchased these devices— such as metal collars, choke chains, and prong collars—in the past, but I also understand that you likely bought them under the advisement of an expert you trusted. I will offer you a better option—one that will teach your dog faster without the use of these tools or other harsh corrections, which do nothing to promote a bond between a person and a dog. 

My mission has become clear: to give people an alternative to the shallow, older ways of training dogs. I, along with other like-minded dog professionals, have set out to help raise the standards in dog training and show people that only through heartfelt communication, not domination, can they expect incredible results. And I’ve been overwhelmed by the response: today, over a decade into my career, I see more people embracing positive training methods than ever before. Meanwhile, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and countless professionals have come out against dominance theory, saying that it hinders training, harms relationships between humans and dogs, and actually can cause behavioral problems.1 I am proud that we all have helped to disrupt an industry headed down the wrong path. Together, we have truly been part of a Dog Training Revolution.

I’ll walk you through everything you need to know—from picking out your dog and housetraining to feeding, basic training, socialization, grooming, and health issues. I’ll also help troubleshoot common behavioral problems, such as excessive barking, chewing, nipping, and jumping, and even offer advice on the extra fun stuff, such as traveling, exercising with your dog, and cool tricks. And most important, every bit of advice I give works toward building such a strong bond between you and your dog that you’ll be astounded by what you can train her to do. After all, the person who can best train your dog is the person who knows her best— and that’s you. My job is simply to show you how.

For most my life I had dogs that follow my commands but it was out of fear. After reading several books on Positive Dog Training I come to believe that Zak George is by far the best Dog Trainer I have ever found. His new book has key training spots in the book that you can go to YouTube and see a video showing exactly what to do. I'm now reading it twice and highlighting. I'm a senior citizen and in 40 days I'll pick up my last puppy to raise. I'm getting a Dogo Argentino pup. I'm so excited to raise a dog with this great new way to train a dog. #zakgeorge Thank so much for this invaluable resorse I don't want raise another dog the old way. This is the only way to Train.

YOU MUST GET THIS BOOK!

I've come across a lot of dog training books, but this one is the best one I've ever read! It's so comprehensive...it really covers everything you need to know, even health issues and socialization and grooming and tricks and traveling. It is also so clear and easy to follow...lots of bullet points and Q&As.

Zak George is one of a kind, and this book includes all the best from his videos. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone with a dog. It's really an excellent guide. I can't say enough good things about it! Just order it...you won't be disappointed!

Love the videos? Get the book!

I've been watching Zak George's YouTube videos with pen and paper, ready to take down notes to train my dog. Well, now I can nix the oen and paper!

This book reads just like Zak George's narration in his videos. You can almost hear his voice when you read the pages. Most of the content on training will seem familiar if you've been watching his YouTube clips, but having it on paperback where you can highlight and dog-ear will help you to remember the tips and tricks, which is a lot faster than watching the videos. Zak's book also covers more topics than what he covers on his channel.

This book really complements Zak George's YouTube channel. My suggestion is to watch his videos, read about the training in the book, spend time training your dog with what you've learned, and then rewatch those video clips to see how you faired.

About the Author

Eileen Christelow was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in a family of avid readers. It was in high school that she first made the leap from reader to writer, publishing her first stories in her high school’s magazine.

After studying art history and drawing in college, she discovered a love of photography and began building a career as a photographer. Her interest in children’s books was always strong, and after the birth of her daughter, she began thinking about writing one of her own. Her first book, Henry and the Red Stripes, was published in 1981.

Since then, she has written and illustrated numerous best-selling picture books including ten popular books about the Five Little Monkeys, Letters from a Desperate Dog, and Vote! I LOVED this book. I've read the first 2 books already but did not mind reading them again as they are very good. Some of the stories are probably going to be finished in another book or several depending on what the author wants to do. I really don't like when this is done and usual do not buy the follow up book(s) but I am willing to purchase all the second books as that is how much I liked all the books in this grouping. Each author has their own reading style which makes this an even better deal. I highly recommend this book and hope that everyone that reads it loves it as much as
I do.

Steamy, Hot,, Sexy Stories! YEAH!!!

I received this boxed set as an ARC from Izzy Sweet. I had read two or three of stories before, but still enjoyed reading them again. These hot and sexy romance books were written by some of my favorite authors. All of the stories featured hot alpha step siblings. My only complaint is that some of the best were cliffhangers. It irks me when I have put my time and energy, or money into the stories to just stop cold. Thanks for writing these romance books.

About the Author
ARTHUR HOPCRAFT, who died in 2004, was an English scriptwriter, well known for his TV plays such as The Nearly Man, and for his small-screen adaptations such as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; Hard Times, Bleak House, and Rebecca. Before taking up writing for TV, he was a sports journalist for The Guardian and The Observer, writing The Football Man: People and Passions in Soccer, which was voted one of best sports books of all time by The Observer and The Independent. He also had four other books published, including an autobiographical account of his childhood, and wrote the screenplay for the film Hostage. Hopcraft won the BAFTA writer's award in 1985.

This book as been reviewed by many a more skilful footballer than me,that said it was easy to understand the greatness and understanding put into it.Also the era was mine and I have read a few football books but this was more well written than most and that was good and bad some footballers can't read that well and I know I can't spell but I enjoyed it a lot.
one last thing why was it so expensive if it could have been half the price I would have been even more pleased.
