Pandora's Box of unique recipes.

This recipe book is a practical guide to eating food that makes us feel fresh, energetic and light. I love the breakfast ideas in particular, since that is one meal I eat properly. I thoroughly enjoyed making the energy bars and coffee cakes. It has also introduced me to some unique ingredients like tapioca flour, cannelini beans and pui lentils. Oh, and the holy water is heavenly and refreshing, with the basil and strawberries! I’ve tried it with raspberries too! Over all this book really celebrates the spirit of food!

Lots of Great Photos...But Lacking Real Info

I was browsing through the pages and the photos were pretty amazing. Included were diagrams showing how the lighting was set up.

but one big problem....about 99% of the descriptions were lacking technical information such as the shutter speed, aperture and ISO. I have other photography lighting books and they usually mention what these technical data were used to get the shot. I know each situation would dictate different data but what we want to know is what it took to get THAT shot. Necessary info like "Was High Speed Sync used to darken the skies?", "Was that particular aperture used to allow a lower ISO?" or "Was high ISO used to bring in more ambient lighting?"

I guess i got this one when it was a gold box deal but still...money is money.

Maybe I can resell this book to someone else.

Lots of pictures, no information on how to even take them

While Zeke Kamm features a particular photo with a diagram to along with it... that's all you get. There are no camera settings, i.e. Speed/Aperture/Iso/lens type/distance to describe how the picture was taken. It's the equivalent of buying a cookbook with lots of pretty pictures of dishes and containing a list of ingredients- but no instructions on how to mix them or even the ingredient quantity.

Nearly all photos are the standard "key light flash at 45 degrees with a fill light on the other side and another flash behind the subject" setup. The photos all look like they were enhanced in Photoshop as a good bit of photos I looked at are not in camera shots.

Without any specifics, all you are getting is a picture book with some hints... with the rest for you to figure out. You'll learn a lot more by going to Flickr and searching for "Strobist", which will give you the same pictures AND camera settings.

This author's writing style is self-serving and lacks depth. From the standpoint of someone that has read all of his books, my best suggestion is to stay away from his works.

Kelby does a much better job and offers more tips in one chapter than the Strobist offers in an entire book.

All fluff. No real helpful content.

Over two millennia ago gigantic figures and lines began to be drawn on the surface of the desert near the town of Nazca in southern Peru. Depictions of animals and birds, geometrical designs, and human-like figures were made on such a scale, including some over 100 m long, that they could only be seen without distortion from the air. This collection of geoglyphs (earth drawings), known today as the Nazca Lines, is considered to be one of the most baffling enigmas of archaeology.

In this book the Nazca geoglyphs are analyzed in terms of traditional religious concepts and economic practices found in the region and elsewhere in the Andes. Archaeological, ecological, and historical information is utilized in the development of a theory to explain the lines and figures as part of religious practices designed primarily to insure the availability of water and the fertility of crops.

Note to the Kindle edition: The Nazca Lines was first published in Peru in 1985 and the last, revised edition--with over 70 photographs and illustrations--appeared in 1988. There have been several reprintings since then, but the book has been difficult to obtain outside of Peru and is currently out-of-print. The most important scientific investigations undertaken since the last edition appeared have supported (or at least not contradicted) the original theory presented here, hence significant changes have not been required to be made in the text or in the conclusions. Finally, the book still contains information not to be found elsewhere, and the eBook version allows this to become accessible to a wider public.

One of his great gifts is to distill a vast amount of research into highly accessible and densely informative texts that bring the mystery of these ancient sites into dramatic profile. Reinhard offers the most compelling and scientifically grounded theory as to why they were created- the far more compelling line of inquiry. Thorough and well paced

I am an avid royal reader, and have become jaded by too many royal books that rehash the same old tired tales from one generation to the next. This book announces in the beginning that it is a re-release of one written 30 years before. No problem. It was good then, and it is still good now.
It captures the boy, the man, the father, husband, and King. There were no revelations, just simple history.

If you have read The Kings Speech (NOT the movie screenplay...totally different) this is an excellent read and fills in the history of the life of the man. I highly recommend both this book and the authored version of The Kings Speech for anyone interested in this type of history.

George VI accidentally became the King after his brother abdicated because he wanted to marry a divorced American. I knew very little about George VI except that he is the father of current British monarch Queen Elizabeth and younger brother of famous king who gave up his thrown for love.
Albert, nicknamed Bertie, who became King George VI, had to overcome many obstacles in his life, including speech impediment. Most of his life, he was under the shadow of his more famous and popular brother Edward VIII. Nonetheless, he was a good husband, great father, and did what he was suppose to do diligently.
This book is a good read on his life.

This book focuses on eight spatial scales (body, home, community, institutions, the street, the city, rual and nation). Each of these spaces represents the intersection of a range of connections, interrelations and movements of different people who have very different ways of participating in, understanding or belonging to them. Each chapter therefore explores how social identities (gender, race, class, sexuality) and relations are constructed in, and through these spaces, and how the meanings and uses of these spaces are contested by their different occupants. Questions of homogeneity and difference, control and disorder, and social and exclusion run throughout the text.

Topics covered include: body modification, homelessness, neighbourhood and cyber communities, the workplace, fear of crime, policing, gentrification, whiteness, leisure activities, citizenship and nationalism. Guides to further reading, and essay questions are provided at the end of each chapter. A glossary defining key words and a guide to how to do a project in social geography are both included at the end of the book.

Gill Valentine is a Professor of Geography at the University of Sheffield.

About the Author
Professor Valentine has held prestigious international visiting fellowships at the Universities of Sydney, Australia and Otago, New Zealand and has visited and given keynote addresses at a range of prestigious international conferences. She was co-founder and co-editor of the international journal Social and Cultural Geography, and co-edited Gender, Place and Culture. She has undertaken international research in Europe, Africa and the USA and is committed to developing the University of Sheffield's international strategy within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Amazing little book, make me want to read more, research more, know more!

I have just completed this book; yet, I am left hanging, hungry for more! The book was too short to my liking! I wish Obenga could go on and on and never stop developing his approach on comparative linguistic between the "hamito-semitic" fallacy in which mainstream analysts classify Ancient Egypt and the Egyptian setting as an African language. More importantly, I discovered the fact that our so called modern world, in which a pseudo equality is proned between individuals, is a disfiguration of the ancient African universalist approach to individual relation. The ancient Egyptians had understood that man and woman, male or femelle, cannot be dissected and separated and analyzed separately; for, they necessarily need each other apport for the future! Establishing a stratified society in which one gender is superior was therefore a dear insult to nature itself! This is of extreme importance given the sexist and feministic world in which we live. Every individual must therefore be judged solely by his ability and contribution to the society!
I have been a proud student of Cheikh anta diop; yet I must say that Obenga on the other hand takes us inside the mind and social construct of Ancient egypt like no other Author before.
He makes me see the correlation between ancient Egypt and Africa and more importantly, he provides me with ideas and concepts on how to establish sound social structure for the future of the African people. I have been a libertarian for quite a time now and the more I read about ancient Egypt, the more I dissect some important Libertarian concept in their philosophy of life and their view of the world.
Liberty and justice is an important aspect of today's world struggle against hegelianism and historicism, and an analysis of Ancient Kmet provide us with the most ancient philosophical study based on the respect of the individual, of his right and property and also on his duty to himself, to the god and to society in general. This gives me high hope for I am beginning clearly establish a foundation upon which we can create a modern African society, more humane, modern and economically wealthy and most importantly, spiritualy revived!
